Online training course developed and delivered by Maggie Brown (West Yorkshire Bat Hospital). This 6 session course will provide an introduction to bat care for anyone interested in bat rehabilitation. (Find out more about what is involved with bat rehabilitation here) The course will take place on Zoom and is designed to be interactive, with lots of opportunities to discuss case studies and ask questions.

NB - As an online course, there is no practical and for elements like bat handling, you should contact your local bat group/bat carer for training and support.

Course content

Session 1 – Introduction to Bat Care

Session 2 – Rescue and transport

Session 3 - Bat Care Mingle (an opportunity to network with other new and experienced bat carers so you can develop peer support and know who to approach when you have questions or don’t know what to do)

Session 4 – Assessment and Treatment

Session 5 – Equipment and short-term husbandry, including Covid and rabies infection control

Session 6 – Release, monitoring and euthanasia

Coming next year, stand alone specialist sessions on baby bats, horseshoe bats and a session for vets and vet nurses. Email training@bats.org.uk to register your interest in these.

CPD: A certificate of attendance will be awarded to those attending the live sessions
