21st February 2024

Join hundreds of others around the UK and take a Big Green Hike for nature this April.

What is the Big Green Hike?

The Big Green Hike is a sponsored walk for a charity of your choice. The distance, format and location are all chosen by you.

Because you set the route, you can create a hike that is accessible for you and your friends.

Hikes can be in towns, cities, parks or the countryside. And they can be as long or short as you like. Plus, you can do your route in whatever way works for you.

When is it?

This year's Big Green Hike will be on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April 2024. However, if you can’t do those days, it’s ok to choose another date.

How do I sign up?

Use the button above to got to the Big Green Hike’s website and select Bat Conservation Trust as your chosen charity.

After you sign up, you’ll get an email with instructions on how to make your own Just Giving page. Do check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see it.

Once you've set up your Just Giving page, share your unique URL to collect donations for the Bat Conservation Trust.

Bat Conservation Trust and the Big Green Hike

Big Green Hike 2024

BCT's Director of Comms and Fundraising Joe Nunez-Mino who is doing the Big Green Hike to raise funds for bat conservation.

BCT is joining more than 30 other environmental charities for 2024's Big Green Hike. And this year, our CEO Kit Stoner, our Director of Comms and Fundraising Joe Nunez-Mino and our Head of Conservation Projects Claire Goodwin are taking part. We also have a BCT supporter, Lauren Matthews, doing an 8 mile woodland hike!

Kit is pleased to find a charity walk which is accessible. “I am really pleased to find a challenge that I can take part in to raise money for bats. I have a problem with my knee (misaligned patella for those who are interested in these things....) that means I am not able to walk long distances, so I will be aiming for a relatively modest eight miles over the weekend. Even this will be challenging for me and I hope I make it!.”

Joe will be visiting trees as he raises money for bats. He says ‘‘Bats are misunderstood, misrepresented and undervalued, many of us know what that feels like so I'm doing a 21Km walk (running is not my thing) with the aim of raising some money to help. I'll be visiting 15 magnificent and ancient trees of 14 species in Central London, from the tree of heaven to the gingko."

Claire will be taking on a virtual Ben Nevis trail and an abseil from the top of the Spinnaker tower as part of this year's Big Green Hike! She says "Watching and listening to bats is an absolute joy in life. Living with cancer I've found that the natural world, while always important to me, has become even more so".

Lauren Matthews loves bats and she will be doing an 8 mile woodland hike! Location still TBC.

Keep an eye on Lauren's Big Green Hike fundraising page for updates.
