24th February 2014

The Hon Vincent Weir with former BCT CEO Amy Coyte

At the Bat Conservation Trust we are deeply saddened by the news that the Hon. Vincent Weir passed away on the 15th of February 2014.

Vincent has generously supported BCT, along with many other wildlife organisations, enabling us to grow and become more effective. The surveys and studies that Vincent has backed have made major breakthroughs in the conservation of some of our most iconic and threatened species, from otters to grey long eared bats. Vincent was a truly inspirational person who had an enormous positive impact on UK wildlife conservation and his death represents a huge loss (further details available here)

At BCT we recognise Vincent's contribution each year through the Vincent Weir Scientific Award, which aims to reward and encourage research on the conservation biology of bats by UK-based students.

Vincent's generosity and support for the Bat Conservation Trust made him not just a supporter but a true friend. Our condolences go out to all those who knew him.
