We have now launched exciting new online recording pages for the Hibernation Survey which is part of the National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP).
These pages follow a similar format to the online recording pages we launched for the NBMP Roost Count earlier this year.
By registering volunteers can enter their counts for these surveys and view results from their sites in the form of charts and downloadable data. Volunteers can also opt to download and print out their survey forms themselves rather than receive them in the post.
The Hibernation Survey has been running since 1997 and involves collecting data from licensed surveyors who monitor bat hibernation sites. To date we have received data from 191 surveyors covering 1037 sites across England, Scotland and Wales. Virtually all of the UK's bat species have been recorded on these surveys at one time or another and for six species or species groups we have enough data to enable us to produce species population trends.
The latest trend information can be found in our Annual Report. We hope that these new online recording pages will also encourage additional hibernation surveyors to share their data with the NBMP so that the species population trends can be even more representative of how bats are faring across the UK.
The NBMP online recording pages also contain more information on all NBMP surveys and how beginners and experts alike can help us monitor the UK's bat populations. In future we will be developing online recording for other NBMP surveys.
Please note the hibernation survey is only suitable for licensed bat workers but the NBMP online recording pages contain more information on all NBMP surveys and how beginners and experts alike can help us monitor the UK's bat populations. In future we will be developing online recording for other NBMP surveys.
