Training & Survey Officer Bats in Churches Project

Overview

The Bats in Churches Project is a ground-breaking partnership bringing together communities, bats and historic churches.

The partnership includes Natural England, Cathedral and Church Buildings Division of the Church of England, Historic England, Bat Conservation Trust and Churches Conservation Trust, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund until 2023 to safeguard the future of protected bat roosts living in hundreds of England’s parish churches whilst reducing their negative impact on these historic buildings and the people who use them.

Role

As Training and Survey Officer, you will lead on setting up and co-ordinating a citizen science survey of bats in churches in England, and work closely with the project Engagement Officers, based at the Church of England and the Heritage Adviser at Churches Conservation Trust to recruit volunteers for this and other parts of the project. You will also develop and deliver a programme of training courses for volunteers.

For this project, we are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who has experience of working with volunteers and developing and delivering training courses. The successful candidate will have knowledge of bat biology and ecology and a solid grounding in the issues surrounding bats in churches.

This is a partnership project, so we are looking for someone with good relationship building skills who is able to understand the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders, and inspire trust and respect.

Application deadline: 9am Monday 3rd December
Interview date: Monday 17th December
