Proposed works
- Description of works
- Several buildings on site were scheduled for demolition, including one hosting roosts for common pipistrelle and brown long-eared bats. Monitoring and exclusion of bats in the building was completed, followed by soft stripping building features (roof tiles, roof lining, soffits) prior to demolition. Activities were scheduled in October to avoid maternity / hibernation periods. Compensation measures constructed prior to roost removal.
- Type of impact upon the roost
- Long-Term Roost Modification and Roost Loss
Proposed mitigations
- Type of mitigation
- Compensation
- Specific technical detail of measure
- Purpose built bat lofts were provided above garages near to the existing roost locations, as well as two bat barns. A variety of bat boxes (minimum of 10) were provided, as well as 40 bat roosting features (including bat tubes) and handmade clay tiles for crevice-dwelling species.
Size: The barn dimensions will have a width of 5m, a length of between 5-7 metres and with a roof apex height of 2.8m.
Materials: Wooden with bitumastic roof lining.
