Brief site description
Melin Glandy (the property) is a derelict former mill building located within a rural area approximately 1.5km north of the small village of Glandy Cross and just over 11km north of the small town of Narberth. It is located within favourable bat habitat with the partially wooded river corridor of the Afon Glandy (the boundary of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (PCNP)) only 20m to the north and its confluence with the Eastern Cleddau River only 170m to the south-west. It is surrounded by small fields (predominantly unimproved and semi-improved) with some mature hedgerows and the common lands of Mynydd Preseli are only 860m to the north, and there are small woodlands – including ancient woodland – within 2km.

Proposed works

Description of works
Prior to works commencing on the property, a purpose built building was constructed close to the property to provide a dedicated roost for Rhinolophid bats. The building also included wall top access via soffit gaps for P. pygmaeus (and all crevice dwelling) bats.
After construction of the dedicated roost building, 1 x Schwegler 1WQ (or similar) bat box was affixed to the building (the northern gable end wall is proposed) to provide additional roosting opportunities. Located in an elevated sheltered position away from disturbance and predation.
Type of impact upon the roost
Long-Term Roost Modification and Roost Loss
