Henry Day

Henry Day with Chris Packham at the 2024 London Restore Nature Now march

"Nature… Who Cares? I do!"

Hi, I’m Henry and I’m proud to be one of the Bat Conservation Trust’s Young Bat Ambassadors!

I’m 11 years old, and I think bats are incredible and amazing animals. I’ve been taking part in the National Bat Monitoring Programme's Sunset Survey since 2020 when I was given a make your own Bat Detector kit. Later that year I was on the cover of ‘The Young Batworker’ talking about the bats in our garden and local nature reserves.

During lockdown I started making nature videos for my YouTube channel ‘Naturetastic with Henry’, including some about bats and other nocturnal wildlife. I really like taking part in citizen science projects, and learning the monitoring and research that is needed to support conservation efforts.

I think more should take part in the Sunset Survey, because it’s really easy for people to do, you don’t need any special equipment and the results are important for understanding what is happening to British Bats.

For the last two years, I have also been monitoring one of the locations for the ‘Waterways Survey’, this involves walking along a river, checking every 100m to search for Daubenton Bat passes over a 4 minutes period at each stop.

In 2024, I was asked to speak at the Restore Nature Now march in London, the title of this biography was the first line of my speech. I spoke in front of about 20,000 people telling them about why I love nature, and why it is so important for us to protect it.

I’m also a Junior Wildlife Ambassador for the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants, and take part in lots of activities with them, including their bat walks and bat boat trips.
