NightWatch is a free, tech-enabled community science project run by the National Bat Monitoring Programme. Its aim is to ensure that everyone can access the benefits of connecting with nature, particularly those underrepresented in the bat monitoring world including urban and minority ethnic communities, and people with disabilities.
Outreach needs to be relevant, interesting, and inspiring to a wide range of audiences. That’s where our NightWatch Champions come in! Champions bring their feedback, ideas, and experiences to the table and shape the future of NightWatch in a meaningful way, by co-designing the NightWatch engagement strategy alongside staff at BCT. They also play a vital role in providing feedback on strategies, ideas and resources, and in other ways such as social media takeovers, supporting with events and writing content for our communications channels.
Meet our NightWatch Champions below:
Meet Tajinder
What is your favourite way to enjoy nature? Looking out the back patio doors and just watching what happens in the back garden!
Why did you become a NightWatch Champion? I am concerned about the decline of bats. I want to let as many people know that we have them in London, as when you tell them, they are shocked.
Meet Connor
What is your favourite way to enjoy nature? My personal favourite way to enjoy wildlife is through photography. It allows you to watch wildlife very attentively and in doing so you find, watch and capture things which many would not.
Why did you become a NightWatch Champion? I really want to start connecting the local communities around me with overlooked and unknown wildlife around them! The Nightwatch Project has a lot of potential to do this especially with the more mysterious nocturnal wildlife.
Meet Siobhan
