How to Organise & Lead a Bat Walk
Bat walk
The workshop provides training in organising and leading a bat walk. It gives participants, who may be relatively new to bats, an introduction to bat biology, ecology and identification so they can answer basic questions from the public. It also includes how to plan and run the bat walk itself. It will be useful for anyone volunteering or working in the environmental sector and wanting to raise awareness of bats.
Course content includes:
- Basic intro to local bats and tips on identification
- Identifying a good route
- Health and safety
- Using bat detectors
The course is available online over 2 sessions and can also be held in person in one evening for groups on request.

Prior knowledge: None, although some experience of bats can be useful but not essential.
This course is usually run as an in-house course in response to requests from bat groups, rangers, wildlife trusts and other people who wish to run bat walk but have not done so before.
