About our 'Surveying for bats' course:

Price is £365 (BCT members receive a discount). CPD certificate upon completion. This course is approved by the Royal Society of Biology as 24 CPD points.

You want to be able to become confident in your ability to plan and execute bat surveys. Incorporating the most up-to-date advice from the 4th edition of the Bat Survey Guidelines, this course has been designed by experts to provide you with all the skills you need to consistently deliver professional level bat surveys. We will guide you through the survey planning process and help you to develop your practical survey and field sign identification skills.

This is the second of a series of four courses designed to train anyone involved in bat work to a professional standard; whether you're working towards your level one bat license, or you just want to improve your practical skills.

'Surveying for bats' course content:

At this in-person course you will be able to immerse yourself in two days of engaging learning, comprising of both classroom and practical sessions. The location of the course varies based on demand (making sure bat roosts are always close by!). This course is designed as a follow-up to our Bat Ecology and Conservation course. Lessons:

  • Identifying survey objectives
  • Planning surveys, including desktop and scoping surveys
  • Resource planning and costings
  • Health and safety, including risk assessments
  • Identifying appropriate survey techniques to meet survey objectives
  • Survey skills and field signs, including droppings
  • Building, construction and architectural terms
  • Case studies and practical roost visits

Pricing: £365 - not including evening meal and accommodation.
