About our 'How to Organise & Lead a Bat Walk' course:

You want to share your passion for bats to inspire others to get involved in bat conservation. Bat walks are an accessible and popular way to introduce complete beginners to bats for the first time.

With this course we will help you develop all the skills you need to run an engaging bat walk by yourself. We will walk you through the entire process, from planning and preparing your event to running the bat walk itself. You will be given the key information on bat biology, ecology and identification needed to become a confident wildlife guide and feel prepared to answer basic questions from the public.

This course is open to all. It will be useful if you're a volunteer or you work in the environmental sector and wanting to raise awareness of bats, or if you want to make a difference for bats in your local community!

'How to Organise & Lead a Bat Walk' course content:

This course is usually run online. In this online format the course is structured as two 2 afternoon or evening sessions, lasting between 90 and 120 minutes, with a practical homework activity. We can also hold in-person training courses to groups on request. For more information about requesting in-house training click here. You do not need any prior knowledge but some experience of bats may be useful.

Lessons:

  • Basic intro to local bats and tips on identification
  • Identifying a good route
  • Health and safety
  • Using bat detectors
