About our 'Bat ecology and conservation' course:

Price is £170 (BCT members receive a discount). CPD certificate upon completion. This course is approved by the Royal Society of Biology as 24 CPD points.

You're ready to take a big step to help us conserve bats by taking on practical work. In this two-day course we will help you develop a comprehensive foundation of bat biology, species identification, ecology and conservation. Unlike our other foundation course, this course also provides you with the practical skills to take part in your first bat survey.

This is the first of a series of four courses designed to train anyone who is new to bat work to a professional standard; whether you're interested in becoming an ecologist, you want to take on voluntary bat work or you're just fascinated by bats.

'Bat ecology and conservation' course content:

This in-person course takes place over two days jam packed with fascinating content. Both days will take place in-person and is hosted in locations across the UK. Lunch will be provided both days and there will also be an opportunity to take part in an evening practical sessions.

Lessons:

  • Bat taxonomy
  • UK species, range and distribution
  • Bat behaviour physiology including adaptations to flight, echolocation, energetics
  • Life histories including life-cycle, mating strategies, pup development, roost composition and requirements, social behaviour
  • Bat conservation and threats
  • Bat species ID
  • How to use a bat detector

Pricing: £170 in person (includes course materials and certificate, lunch and refreshments)
