Bat Recording Manager is a free program designed to store and manage the metadata related to bat recordings. This workshop provides an introduction to how the program can be used and some of the features that can assist with analysing and organising your collection of full spectrum recordings.

  • Craftivism: A beginner-friendly introduction - Lil McDermaid, BCT

‘Craftivism’ is where creative skills are combined with activism to create meaningful, thoughtful advocacy for the things you care about. In this workshop, we will take you through some principles of community activism, show you some inspiration and then guide you through using the provided materials to draw, cut, stick, write or sew your way to your own piece.

  • Understanding and applying the woodland roost resource concept - Ian Davidson-Watts

This workshop will describe how the woodland roost resource concept for tree roosting bats has been used to undertake impact assessments and mitigation licensing. The workshop will provide participants with an understanding of how to design the necessary surveys and develop approaches to the assessment of impacts and mitigation of woodland bat populations at a habitat level.

Sunday morning workshops

  • Evidence and Reporting - Wildlife crime - Mark Goulding and Jan Collins, BCT
Join BCT's Wildlife Crime Officer to gain a better understanding of the application of the law, police evidential standards on bat crime and how to report it. We will also cover what will be expected of a witness, from statements to court.
  • Woodland management for bats - Sonia Reveley, BCT

Bats use trees in a variety of ways and we often consider their conservation in terms of individual trees. In this workshop, Sonia will share advice on managing woodlands to benefit bats.

  • Advanced sound analysis - Philip Briggs, BCT

This workshop is open to all and will look at the theory of signal processing, tips on
making more precise measurements when analysing bat sounds, and species
identification including some more unusual/challenging calls. Techniques will be
demonstrated in both BatSound and Kaleidoscope. Although some knowledge of
sound analysis is helpful this workshop will also have information included for
beginners.

  • Biosecurity and bats - Allyson Walsh, BCT

Develop your understanding of the biosecurity issues involved with bat conservation and how to protect the bats and ourselves from disease.

  • Producing infographics to share bat-related messages - Juliet Maxted, BCT

Juliet will share advice and tips on how to turn data or other information into eye-catching and engaging infographics you can include in resources for the general public or use in reports for clients.

  • Noises Off - Paola Reason

Noise is difficult and confusing: what should be measured; how do you then interpret your findings? This workshop will take you through some common situations that generate noise and consider the factors that need to be considered that might make noise disturbance.
