BCT’s “Bearing Witness for Wildlife” work was funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, although funding for the project concluded in March 2020.

The project involved providing advice and assistance aimed at ensuring that allegations of wildlife crime involving species of conservation concern were effectively addressed, through preventative action or, where there was need, investigation and prosecution.

Our Investigations Project has been running for over 15 years, focusing on investigations into bat crime but the Bearing Witness for Wildlife Work allowed an expansion of this to include:

  • Bat Crime Investigations Project;
  • Conservation Wildlife Crime; (for species such as Great Crested Newt, Water voles and protected plants.)
  • Bat Roost Mitigation.

Despite the conclusion of funding we remain committed to both Bat Crime Investigations and Conservation Wildlife Crime and continue to seek ongoing funding to support this work.
