ROOST website launch!

The new Roost webpages are now live and you can access them here – through Roost we aim to promote bat roost mitigation and enhancement and best practice throughout the built environment. We are doing this by sharing bat roost mitigation and enhancement case studies (which you can see here) and then showcasing exemplar work through the Roost Awards.

New case studies can be uploaded now; case studies fulfilling the required criteria (which you will see marked during entering the data) and uploaded before 31st October 2020 will be eligible for submission to the Roost Awards in Spring 2021! Judges for the Awards represent academia, the statutory nature conservation bodies and ecological consultancy and will be looking for examples of best practice but also looking to see which consultants could share learning from their experiences.

We also aim to improve products to enhance the built environment for our bats (e.g. bat boxes) through the unique Roost Partnership scheme. The scheme does not endorse particular products but rather promotes the important working relationship between BCT and the Partner bat box or access product manufacturer in a common goal of improving roosting opportunities for bats. The Partnership also acts as an information sharing hub used to gather feedback from industry professionals to constantly improve our understanding of bat roosting requirements.

We are therefore very excited to welcome our first Partner to the scheme, BCT Corporate Members Green&Blue who manufacturer integrated BatBlocks(c), as well as other conservation features for the built environment. We look forward to working with them and they say:

"Joining the Roost Partnership Scheme from the Bat Conservation Trust felt like the right thing to do for Green&Blue. We're keen to create as much habitat for wildlife as possible within the built environment, but we're not experts in all species. To be able to work closely with those that are will ensure that we are designing appropriate products that really will suit intended species, such as our wonderful bats, and will help us to raise awareness and to educate on overall biodiversity measures. None of us can save the world alone but by creating meaningful partnerships working towards the same aim, we can strive to make a bigger difference for our wildlife and for biodiversity.”
