In December we posted an update on the simplification of wildlife guidance process being undertaken by Defra. We reported that as a result of a huge response by bat workers to the consultation on the 'Bats: complying with the law' document BCT had gained time with the Minister Oliver Letwin and subsequently a level of involvement in the process.

Since that time BCT has had constructive input via Defra in the revised approach to the review of current guidance and future provision.

As part of this process a further consultation is now underway. This is seeking opinion on the audiences identified by Defra as requiring advice and the outline content listed in very broad terms as a series of questions that Government might be expected to address, including for protected species. BCT will be submitting a response on this consultation. The consultation is here http://guidanceanddata.defra.gov.uk/reforming-biodiversity-guidance/ The deadline for responses is 20th August.

BCT will continue to be involved as closely as possible in this ongoing process and to report any updates.
