The goal of bat conservationists and bat scientists across the globe is to help bats and our natural world thrive, without minimizing the risks of contact with bats. To do this we need the support of decision makers and the public. Research has shown that certain words and experiences are more likely to inspire and motivate people than others. Therefore, our language and framing is integral to our goals.

There is a growing body of evidence on how framing risks, benefits and attributions of bats can support both public health and bat conservation at the same time. Through careful message design, including risk-benefit information rather than risk-only information, the outcomes are linked to more positive beliefs about bats.

We have developed - Let's talk about bats and health : A communications toolkit - (PDF download) - with support from the Rufford Foundation, to help you with onwards communications.

We will be adding more resources to this page over time.
