Calls regarding grounded or found bats should go to the BCT Helpline if possible (0845 1300 228), but the Secretary will take them if people want to talk about bats etc. and need a visit in her local area.
The group does not currently have a website. The current Chair is Dave Cottle.
Summary of the Bat Group‘s activities:
Bat Talks and Walks
- The Bat Group has bat walks and bat counts during the summer.
- The Bat Group arranges talks and discussions during the winter throughout the county as Somerset has a quite large geographical area.
- Several members give talks to local groups and institutions.
Survey and Monitoring
- There are quite a few sites and roosts within the county that the Bat Group regularly monitors. Some examples are the Bishop's Palace, Wells; Yeovil Ninesprings Country Park; and Montacute House (National Trust).
- The specific research project in 2007 is a Mendip big bat survey on the 24th August.
BCT Surveys
- Several members take part in the National Bat Monitoring Programme surveys.
