Summary of the Bat Group's activities:
Survey and Monitoring
- The Bat Group monitors a large pipistrelle colony in Pennal (south Gwynedd) every other year in summer.
Hibernation sites (containing a very small number of horseshoe bats) in north Ceredigion are monitored for activity - most sites not previously recorded.
The Bat Group also surveys a local nature reserve at Penglais, Aberystwyth, an RSPB reserve at Ynyshir and Wildlife Trust reserves at Old Warren and Penglanowen.
BCT Surveys
- The Bat Group has participated in the BCT's Bats and Roadside Mammals survey.
The Bat Group also does the Sunset-sunrise Survey and Pipistrelle, Natterer's and Brown Long-eared Colony Counts as part of BCT's National Bat Monitoring Programme.
Bat Walks and Talks
- The Bat Group has regular walks for members and also undertakes other walks and talks when invited.
