NBMP Workshop Requests

The Bat Conservation Trust's National Bat Monitoring Programme works with Bat Groups and other organisations to run bat detector workshops. The aim of these workshops is to ensure that there are trained volunteers able to carry out survey work for the purpose of monitoring the UK's bat populations. In addition we hope to provide skills in species identification with bat detectors and carrying out monitoring survey work that can be used on a local level by voluntary groups and individuals in other conservation projects. The workshops are interesting and fun and designed to stimulate, entertain and raise awareness about bats and their world of sound.

Workshop participants normally pay a fee of £15 or £10 concessions (BCT members, partner bat group members, and unwaged) or £5 concessions (NBMP volunteers) [only one discount allowed per person]. No other fees are charged and OAPs are free. Other concessions may be possible but must be agreed with BCT beforehand. A booking system is set up to collect participants details and any special requirements. All administration can be handled centrally including preparation of participants resource pack. Publicity can be organised through the BCT website and we will usually add the event to our list of training dates on the web page unless otherwise agreed.

In certain situations we can be flexible and may negotiate with organisations or groups over other types of arrangement for covering costs and arranging bookings etc. Once we have received your workshop request we will be in touch to discuss this with you.  If you have any questions please contact Philip Briggs, NBMP Monitoring Manager, on 020 7820 7179 or at pbriggs@bats.org.uk.

This course is designed especially for voluntary bat conservationists and will not provide individuals with sufficient knowledge to undertake professional bat survey work. Attendance cannot be used to demonstrate proficiency in bat surveying. Click here for details of courses for professionals
