Summary of the Bat Group's activities:
Survey and Monitoring
- The Bat Group regularly monitors specific roots, including through Colony Count and Hibernation Surveys; some members do weekly colony counts throughout the summer.
- The Bat Group regularly survey specific sites. For example, SSSI parkland site was surveyed several times in the last year.
Research projects
- Some members of the Bat Group are beginning to gain experience in bat ringing and associated studies. Some are also exploring the use of Anabat.
BCT Surveys
- The Bat Group undertakes the Field Survey, Waterway Survey, Sunset-sunrise Survey, Pipistrelle Colony Counts and Hibernation Site counts as part of BCT's National Bat Monitoring Programme.
Bat Talks
- The Bat Group holds regular talks for the general public.
Bat Walks
- The Bat Groups holds regular bat walks for members and the general public.
Other Activities
- The Bat Group has been working closely with the county Biological Records Centre to digitise its records database.
- The group attends approximately 5 Country and village shows a year.
Publications
- The Bat Group publish a newsletter twice a year. The newsletter editor is Ian Nixon (iannixon99@tiscali.co.uk).
