The smoothed index is currently 154.9% above the 1999 base year value, equivalent to an annual increase of 5.7%. The smoothed index has increased every year since the baseline year and overall there has been a significant increase in the smoothed index since 1999.

From all years for which data are available (1990-2016), counts from 142 sites contribute to the trend analysis in England (sites surveyed in more than one year and with lesser horseshoe bat present in at least one year).

There are no significant differences between trends for regions within England.
