Introductory Bat Detector Workshops

Bat ecolohation callsThese workshops are designed to ensure that there are trained volunteers able to carry out our survey work for the purposes of monitoring the status of the UK's bat populations.

An important part of identifying bats with mini-detectors rests with our own hearing abilities. By familiarising ourselves with the basic elements of bat sound and training our hearing through practice, we can begin to identify bat species in the field.

This workshop will introduce the four main elements of bat calls that can be used to help differentiate between species in the field: repetition, rhythm, tonal quality and pitch.

The workshop will be followed by a bat walk, during which attendees will be able to put their training to the test!

This workshop is an introductory course designed specifically for volunteers to carry out our surveys. Professionals are therefore kindly asked to allow places on this event to be taken up by volunteers, and to attend the training courses tailored towards carrying out survey work on a professional basis.

Details of forthcoming workshops will be listed here when available.
