Summary of the Bat Group's activities:

Surveys and Monitoring

  • The Bat Group regularly monitors specific roosts, including pipistrelle roosts and hibernation sites.
  • The group regularly surveys specific sites, including bat box schemes at Ladybank, Tentsmuir and Red Myre.

BCT Surveys

  • The Bat Group undertakes the Waterway Survey, Pipistrelle and Natterer's Colony Counts and Hibernation site counts as part of BCT's National Bat Monitoring Programme.

Bat Walks

  • The Bat Group holds one or two bat walks a year for the general public.

Other Activities

  • The Bat Group attends local shows and events, such as the Fife Show and Loch Leven Discovery Day.
  • A couple of members care for sick and injured bats.
  • The Bat Group also has involvement in other projects working with schools and community groups.
  • The Bat Group aims to hold comprehensive records in conjunction with the local Biological Records Centre and NBMP. As the need arises the Group advises on development casework.
