Ecological Consultants

Changes in legislation and licensing requirements have led to a greater need for consultants with knowledge of bat surveys.

To help meet this demand, BCT has developed a number of courses on carrying out professional bat surveys, the most basic of which is the three-day foundation course, Bats and Bat Surveys, which gives an introduction to all aspects of surveying for bats.

There are also a number of follow-up modules to this course which assume some previous knowledge (more details given on details for each course) - these allow consultants to look at each subject area in more detail and practise their skills.

It must be noted, however, that it is not possible to become a competent bat surveyor by courses alone. Those wishing to do bat surveys professionally must also undertake a substantial amount of fieldwork to gain the experience necessary to become a good surveyor.
