Bats and Bridges: An Awareness Course

Target audience: Bridge engineers, bridge maintenance and management staff, construction industry 

This one day course is aimed at individuals responsible for the maintenance and management of bridges and hopes to raise awareness of bats among such staff. This course has been designed to ensure that participants are aware of their responsibilities with regards to bats and are also able to recognise the basic signs of potential roosts within bridge structures.

Prior knowledge: None required

Course content includes:

  • Bat biology and ecology
  • Spotlight on bats in bridges - how and when they use them
  • Taking account of bats.
  • Site visit - guidance on how to recognise basic signs of potential roosts.
  • Discussion of specific case studies
