Automatic Species Identification

Target audience: Ecological consultants - Intermediate level

This one-day course is aimed at professionals or interested amateurs and follows on from BCT’s Sound analysis and species identification. It covers the principles of automated identification to analyse large volumes of data and looks at currently available software.  It examines the issues around using automated identification systems and optimising workflow for dealing with large datasets.

Course content includes:

  • Principles of automated identification
  • Currently available software
  • When can you/should you use it? (examples of good and bad practise)
  • Practical session using automated identification software

Practical demonstrations will include Kaleidoscope software, with two week free trials provided by Wildlife Acoustics and Sonochiro software, with two week free trials provided by Biotope.

Prior Knowledge: Designed as a follow-up to Sound analysis and species identification.
