Arboriculture and Bats: How to Use a Fibrescope
Target Audience: Arborists
Aimed at arborists who already have a basic understanding of the issues surrounding bats and trees, this one day course goes beyond the visual survey taught in the introductory course. You will explore in more depth the practical skills needed in the field, the methods that can be used to look for evidence of bats, learn the appropriate use of fibrescopes and be given guidance on what can and cannot be done without a bat licence. Prior knowledge and skills are required and can be gained by attending Arboriculture and Bats: A guide for practitioners.
Please note that this course does not provide adequate training to gain a bat licence.
Course content includes:
- Revision of bat ecology, biology and the law
- Tree roost recognition and basic visual assessment of trees for bat roosts
- Introduction to a method statement on how to use fibrescopes in bat work
- Fibrescopes: costs, range and how to use for bat work
- Where to go for help and emergency procedures
- Practical exercises on how to use a fibrescope
Prior knowledge: Previous attendance of BCT's Arboriculture and Bats: A Guide For Practitioners course (if you are unsure as to the level of experience required please contact Dave Sutton to check).
