QGIS for Bat Groups and other wildlife recorders
QGIS is a freely available Geographic Information System (GIS) software package that can prove invaluable for bat groups and particularly Bat Group Recorders.
This one-day hands-on workshop will provide an introduction to what the software can offer and how to use it, enabling bat groups to more effectively identify what they know and where they need to go to get more data.
Course content includes:
- Introduction to the basics of spatial data
- How to use the FSC Tom.bio productivity tools plugin for QGIS to work with Ordnance Survey grid references
- Spatial data analysis
- Step-by-step work-through of useful techniques for bat groups handling survey data.
Course tutor: Steve Roe
Prior knowledge: No prior knowledge of GIS is necessary.
Participants will be required to bring their own laptop to the workshop with the necessary software and data already installed (details of which will be provided to registered participants prior to the course).
