The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is looking for Trustees for recruitment in 2009 and beyond to ensure the range of expertise across the board is maintained. We have vacancies we would like to fill over the next few months and vacancies that will occur over the next 20 months as trustees complete their terms of office. These vacancies will suit individuals with experience and skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • fundraising
  • finance
  • human resources/personnel
  • marketing
  • public relations
  • general management (of small/medium growing organisations)
  • high level government policy making (UK, Europe)
  • chairing meetings.

If you are interested in joining BCT's Board and are able to offer experience and skills in any of the above, and can commit time to this role, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please either call BCT on 020 7627 2629 or email secretary@bats.org.uk in the first instance to arrange an informal discussion. We would like to receive any expressions of interest by 1st February 2009.

Along with the particular expertise you bring to the Board you would also share in the collective responsibility for high quality governance, setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring that the charitable objectives as set out in the constitution comply with charity law (www.charity-commission.gov.uk/publications/cc3.asp).

The Board of Trustees meets four times a year in London and in addition to board meetings, trustees are often called on during the year for comment and input on a range of items, sometimes requiring a very swift response. These are unpaid positions with all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while exercising your responsibilities paid by BCT.

In addition to visiting the Charity Commission website, other important information for trustees can be found in the BCT Articles of Association, particularly Articles 28 to 42. A copy of the Memorandum and Articles can be downloaded here (pdf) or provided on request.
