As many of you will recall we responded, and urged many of you to do the same, to Defra's autumn consultation on simplifying wildlife guidance documents including a document entitled 'Bats; Complying with the Law'

BCT was very concerned by the inaccuracies, negative tone and lack of links to supporting information. Thanks to a phenomenal response from you, over half of the responses the Government received on the consultation concerned bats. This meant BCT has been able to sit down and work closely with the authors at Defra and provide our edits directly to the document. This week we met with the Minister behind the wildlife guidance simplification review, Oliver Letwin.

Dr Carol Williams, Director of Conservation and Julia Hanmer, CEO of BCT

We have been heartened by our meeting and want to say a huge thanks to all the bat workers and bat enthusiasts who have been and are working with us on this - the huge number of voices raised in concern led directly to BCT being invited to really get involved with this issue and, hopefully, make a huge difference!

We'll keep you posted with progress!
